Super Mario Bros. for the NES is an iconic platform video game released in 1985, which not only defined the genre but also became a fundamental pillar for the video game industry. Developed by Nintendo, this game featured innovative gameplay mechanics and level design that are still studied for their ingenuity and ability to teach players through the gameplay itself.

Technically, the game was a marvel for its time, taking full advantage of the NES hardware with colorful graphics and a memorable soundtrack composed by Koji Kondo, whose tunes remain recognizable to this day. As for availability, Super Mario Bros. has been re-released on multiple platforms over the years, including Nintendo's Virtual Console, the Game Boy Advance, and most recently, the Nintendo Switch Online.

Improvements in later versions have mainly included improved resolution and compatibility with modern controls, while deficiencies are minimal and usually related to nostalgia for the original controller or the gaming experience on a classic console. However, the essence of the game has remained intact, allowing new generations to experience the game as it was originally conceived.

History

The history of Super Mario Bros. it focuses on the adventures of Mario, a plumber, an Italian, and sometimes his brother Luigi in the Mushroom Kingdom. The game begins when the Princess Peach (originally known as Princess Toadstool) is kidnapped by the evil king Bowser, who has used his magic to transform the inhabitants of the kingdom in inanimate objects, and has created an army of creatures to prevent someone from rescue the princess.

Mario embarks on a mission to save Princess Peach and to restore peace in the Mushroom Kingdom. Across eight unique worlds, each with four levels, Mario must face a variety of enemies and obstacles. The levels include underground landscapes, water worlds, and castles filled with lava, and dangerous traps.

On his journey, Mario can find and use various power-ups that give you special abilities. The mushroom Super Mushroom makes Mario grow in size and enables it to resist an extra shot. The Fire Flower allows you to launch fireballs at enemies, and the "Starman" grants him invulnerability and temporary ability of defeat enemies with a single touch.

The ultimate goal of Mario through each level, overcoming or avoiding enemies and obstacles, until you reach the end where it faces one of the minions of Bowser or, in the last level of each world, Bowser himself. In the confrontation with Bowser, Mario must dodge their attacks and find a way to defeat it, usually by activating a mechanism that causes Bowser to fall into the lava.

At the end of the game, after defeating Bowser in the last castle, Mario finally rescue Princess Peach. It is revealed that many of the "Bowsers" faced in the castles above were actually enemies in disguise, and the real Bowser is found in the eighth world.

The story concludes with Princess Peach thanks Mario for his bravery and for saving the Mushroom Kingdom. Peace is restored and the inhabitants of the kingdom return to its original shape. Mario and Princess Peach back to the beginning of the kingdom, thus closing the adventure until the next time Bowser decides to attack again.
