Description
Mortal Kombat came to the SNES in 1993, a year after its bloody debut in the arcade. Developed by Sculptural Software and published by Acclaim, this port for a home console was proposed to capture the essence of the brutal fighting game original and the technical limitations of the SNES.
In this version, the iconic characters like Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Johnny Cage are presented with sprites smaller and less detailed than in the arcade, and the scenarios are displayed with a color palette guests. The original soundtrack, composed by Adrian Schwartz, also is simplified, using samples of lower quality.
Despite these cuts, Mortal Kombat for SNES retains game mechanics that defined it in its original version. The combat system, based on the combination of buttons, allows you to perform devastating attacks and special moves bloody, as the famous Fatalities. The mechanical lock and the variety of characters with different fighting styles round off the experience of combat.
The game offers several game modes, including an arcade mode for one player, a versus mode for two players and a training mode. It also has a system of codes to unlock characters and additional scenarios.
Mortal Kombat for SNES was a commercial success, selling over 3.5 million copies. Despite some criticism for its graphics and sound simplified, the game was praised for its gameplay is solid, his brutality, and his faithful adaptation of the arcade experience right.
Mortal Kombat for SNES is the only version of the game available for Nintendo's console. However, the game's original arcade was re-released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as part of the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, which includes graphics and enhanced sound, as well as additional content.
History
The history of Mortal Kombat is developed in a fictional world where two kingdoms, Earth and Outworld, are in constant conflict. Every five years held a tournament called Mortal Kombat where ten wrestlers of each kingdom are facing death to determine the winner. If Outworld win ten tournaments in a row, you will be able to invade Earth and enslave its population.
In the year 1992, the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung in Outworld has won the past nine tournaments of Mortal Kombat, leaving the Earth on the brink of defeat. Shang Tsung is not only a skilled fighter, but also has the power to steal souls, which has allowed him to maintain his youth and power over the years.
Liu Kang, a young monk shaolin, is chosen to represent Earth in the next tournament. Accompanied by his fellow Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and Kanรณ, Liu Kang travels to the mysterious island where they celebrate the Mortal Kombat, with the hope of defeating Shang Tsung and saving his kingdom.
In the tournament, Liu Kang faces a number of warriors of Outworld, including the ninja Sub-Zero, the sorcerer's Raiden, and the monstrous Goro. Each battle is a test of strength, skill and will, where victory means survival and defeat death.
After defeating all his opponents, Liu Kang confronts Shang Tsung in a final battle. The fight is fierce and balanced, but in the end, Liu Kang emerges victorious, defeating the witch and breaking their winning streak.
With the defeat of Shang Tsung, Outworld loses the tournament and the Earth is saved from invasion. Liu Kang becomes a hero, and peace returns to both kingdoms, at least for a time.
The history of Mortal Kombat 1 ends with the victory of the Earth and the hope of a peaceful future. However, this final epic only marks the beginning of a saga full of new tournaments, dangerous enemies and epic battles that will define the fate of both kingdoms.
