Description
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (ALttP) was released in 1991 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), establishing himself as one of the titles most emblematic of the console and of the history of video games. Developed by Nintendo EAD and directed by the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto, ALttP marked a before and an after in the genre of action and adventure, setting a new standard for the gameplay, level design, narrative, ambient and soundtrack.
ALttP took advantage of the full graphical capabilities of the SNES, featuring a game world that is vibrant and detailed, with sprites of large size, varied and visual effects impressive. The soundtrack, composed by Koji Kondo, and is considered a masterpiece of chiptune, with memorable melodies that perfectly accompany the atmosphere of the game.
Hyrule, the kingdom that Link explores in ALttP, is divided into two worlds: the World of the Light and the Dark World. Each of these worlds has different biomes, enemies and challenges, inviting players to explore every corner and discover the secrets that hide in them. The design of game's levels is intricate and non-linear, allowing players to choose their own path and discover new places at your own pace.
The combat system of ALttP is simple but profound, based on the use of the sword and the shield as main weapons. Link can learn new fighting techniques, such as attacks rotating and blows air, that allow you to face a variety of enemies with greater effectiveness. In addition to the sword and shield, Link will use a variety of magical objects, such as bombs, arrows and bumeranes, to solve puzzles and fight enemies.
History
The story begins in Hyrule, a prosperous kingdom ruled by the King of Hyrule. One day, the evil wizard Agahnim takes control of the castle and captures Princess Zelda. Link, a young farmer, wakes up from a dream foreboding and heads to the Castle of Hyrule to rescue the princess. In the journey, Link meets an old man who reveals to him that Agahnim seeks the power of the Trifuerza, a magical relic that can grant wishes. To stop it, Link needs to find the Master Sword, the only weapon able to defeat him.
The search of the Master Sword takes to Link to a sanctuary secret, where he discovers that the Master Sword is sealed by the power of the Seven Sages. To release the sword, Link must travel to the Dark World, a parallel dimension corrupted by'ganon, the king of evil. In the Dark World, Link is facing seven dungeons guarded by henchmen of'ganon. In each dungeon, Link must solve puzzles, defeat enemies and find the magical crystal which releases one of the Seven Sages. After freeing the Seven Sages, Link returns to the Castle of Hyrule and faces Agahnim in an epic battle. To defeat him, Link frees the Princess Zelda and breaks the curse of the Dark World.
However, the victory is short-lived. 'ganon, freed from her prison in the Dark World, he rises and faces the Link in a final battle. Link, using the power of the Trifuerza of Courage, defeat'ganon and restore the peace in Hyrule. With'ganon defeated, Link becomes a legendary hero and Hyrule enters an era of peace and prosperity. Princess Zelda thanks Link for his courage and the game ends with Link riding up to a new dawn.
