Mortal Kombat 3 came to the Mega Drive in 1995, three years after his debut arcade. Developed by Midway Games and published by Williams Entertainment, this version for the 16-bit console Sega brought a revolution graphical and playable that it became one of the world's most acclaimed titles of the saga.
Mortal Kombat 3 Mega Drive display graphics, digitized of higher quality than its predecessors, with sprites largest, most detailed, animations are more fluid, and a wider palette of colors. The soundtrack is also experiencing a major leap forward, with music composed by Adrenalin and effects sound more crisp.
The game introduces a new cast of fighters, including Cyrax, Sub-Zero version (Cyber), Smoke, Noob Saibot and Shao Kahn, bringing the total to 15 playable characters. In addition, we incorporate new special moves, combos and fatalities, expanding the possibilities of strategic combat.
Mortal Kombat 3 has been adapted to a wide range of platforms throughout the years: Arcade, Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), PC, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch.
The version of the Mega Drive Mortal Kombat 3 is considered as one of the best conversions of the original game, praised for its faithfulness to the arcade experience right and by its own upgrades: sprites digitized of the highest quality and the wider palette of colors provide a visual experience that is richer and more attractive. The soundtrack composed by Adrenalin and the effects of sound sharper create an atmosphere more immersive. The incorporation of new characters, moves and fatalities expands the strategic possibilities, and the fun of combat.
However, it also presents some of the differences that have been the subject of debate: The response of the controls on the Mega Drive can be less precise than in the arcade version, especially on special moves complexes. Some versions of Mortal Kombat 3 for the Mega Drive, suffered censorship in certain movements and fatalities, taking some of the graphic violence that characterised the original game.
History
The history of Mortal Kombat 3 takes place a few years after the events of the second game. Shao Kahn, the supreme god of the Outworld, has been defeated by Liu Kang, but is not willing to surrender. In his anger, Shao Kahn sends to Sindel, his queen brought back from the dead, to the Ground to capture the souls of the more powerful warriors and merge them with warriors of Outworld, creating an army invincible.
Liu Kang, once more, is called to defend the Earth. Next to him are some of the winners of the previous tournaments, such as Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and Sub-Zero, as well as new warriors as Jax Briggs, Kitana and Mileena. In addition, join the fight with new characters such as Nightwolf, Sindel and Sheeva.
Sindel organizes a new Mortal Kombat tournament, this time in the Earth. Warriors of two kingdoms faced in fighting to the death, while Sindel fulfills its mission to capture souls. However, not all is as it seems, and some of the warriors of the Earth have plans of their own.
After passing all the tests, Liu Kang and the other warriors of the Earth is facing Shao Kahn in a final battle. The fight is epic and hard-fought, but in the end, Liu Kang emerges victorious, defeating once again the evil god and thwart his plans to conquer the Earth.
The victory of Liu Kang brings peace to the Earth, for a time. However, Shao Kahn is not willing to accept defeat and swears revenge. The history of Mortal Kombat 3 ends with an uncertain future, with the threat of Shao Kahn still present and the future of the Earth in danger.
