Description
The original Resident Evil game, released in 1996, marked a milestone in the survival horror genre and has been ported to various platforms over the years. The Game Boy Color (GBC) version, although ultimately cancelled, was a notable attempt to bring this classic to a portable console. Despite the cancellation, versions of the ROM were leaked online, allowing enthusiasts to experience what could have been.
The plot of Resident Evil revolves around S.T.A.R.S. members Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, who investigate a series of disappearances on the outskirts of Raccoon City and find themselves trapped in a mansion infested with zombies and other monstrous creatures. This claustrophobic and suspenseful setting has been essential in establishing the atmosphere of the series.
Although the GBC version was never officially released, the project sought to maintain the essence of the original game, adapting the graphics and gameplay to the limitations of the portable console. New additions such as a variety of enemies and an alternative method of saving games were planned.
History
The story of Resident Evil 1 begins with the disappearance of a team from the elite S.T.A.R.S. unit. in the Arklay Mountains, near the city of Raccoon. Team Alpha is sent to investigate and soon find themselves trapped in an isolated mansion, infested with zombies and other mutant creatures. Players can choose between two characters: Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, each with their own abilities and scenarios.
The mansion, which appears abandoned, is actually a secret laboratory of the Umbrella corporation, where illegal experiments have been carried out with a virus known as the T-Virus, which is capable of reanimating the dead and creating biological monsters. As the characters explore the mansion, they discover the truth behind the experiments and confront the horrors they have created.
Chris and Jill find documents and evidence that reveal Umbrella's involvement in the creation of the T-Virus and the existence of an even more dangerous creature, the Tyrant. With the help of other surviving members of S.T.A.R.S., including Rebecca Chambers and Barry Burton, they work together to unravel the mystery and find a way to escape.
Tension rises when it is revealed that one of the team's leaders, Albert Wesker, has been working for Umbrella and plans to use the creatures and the virus for his own benefit. Wesker betrays the team, but is ultimately defeated. The characters must face the Tyrant, a battle that tests their limits and marks the climax of the game.
Finally, the characters manage to activate a self-destruct system in the mansion, eliminating the laboratory and evidence of Umbrella's experiments. They escape in a helicopter as the mansion explodes, leaving behind the dark secrets and creatures that once inhabited it.
The story concludes with the characters reflecting on the events and vowing to fight the Umbrella corporation, whose actions have endangered the entire world. This commitment lays the groundwork for the sequels and expansion of the "Resident Evil" universe.
