Description

Mortal Kombat 3 came to the SNES in 1995, a year after its bloody debut in the arcade. This port for home console, developed by Williams Interactive and published by Acclaim, it was proposed to capture the essence of the brutal fighting game original with some significant improvements in graphics and sound, taking advantage of the capabilities of the SNES.

In this version, the iconic characters from the previous installments, such as Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Johnny Cage, you are presented with sprites largest, most detailed, showing a greater variety of animations and facial expressions. The scenarios also received a facelift, with the most vibrant color and more complex designs. The original soundtrack, composed by Adrian Schwartz, maintains the style of the game, but with higher quality audio, and new sound effects.

Mortal Kombat 3 for SNES retains the combat mechanics that defined the previous games, but with some notable improvements. The combo system is expanded even more, allowing you to perform combinations of more elaborate and devastating. Introduced new special moves, such as the Animalities and Babalities, which add variety to the combat. The mechanical lock is refined, allowing a defense more precise and strategic.

The game offers several game modes, including an arcade mode for one player, a versus mode for two players, a training mode and a tournament mode for up to eight players. It also has a system of codes to unlock characters and additional scenarios, as well as fatalities secret.

Mortal Kombat 3 for the SNES was a commercial success, selling over 3.5 million copies. Critics praised the improvements to graphics and sound, the expansion of the mechanics of the game and the amount of additional content. The game became one of the most popular titles of the SNES and cemented the franchise Mortal Kombat as a leader in the video game industry.

Mortal Kombat 3 for SNES is the only version of the game available for Nintendo's console. However, the game's original arcade was re-released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as part of the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, which includes graphics and enhanced sound, as well as additional content. In 1996, the game also had an adaptation for the Game Boy, with graphics and gameplay streamlined.

History

The history of Mortal Kombat 3 takes place a few years after the events of the second game. Shao Kahn, the supreme god of the Outworld, has been defeated by Liu Kang, but is not willing to surrender. In his anger, Shao Kahn sends to Sindel, his queen brought back from the dead, to the Ground to capture the souls of the more powerful warriors and merge them with warriors of Outworld, creating an army invincible.

Liu Kang, once more, is called to defend the Earth. Next to him are some of the winners of the previous tournaments, such as Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and Sub-Zero, as well as new warriors as Jax Briggs, Kitana and Mileena. In addition, join the fight with new characters such as Nightwolf, Sindel and Sheeva.

Sindel organizes a new Mortal Kombat tournament, this time in the Earth. Warriors of two kingdoms faced in fighting to the death, while Sindel fulfills its mission to capture souls. However, not all is as it seems, and some of the warriors of the Earth have plans of their own.

After passing all the tests, Liu Kang and the other warriors of the Earth is facing Shao Kahn in a final battle. The fight is epic and hard-fought, but in the end, Liu Kang emerges victorious, defeating once again the evil god and thwart his plans to conquer the Earth.

The victory of Liu Kang brings peace to the Earth, for a time. However, Shao Kahn is not willing to accept defeat and swears revenge. The history of Mortal Kombat 3 ends with an uncertain future, with the threat of Shao Kahn still present and the future of the Earth in danger.
