Description
"Resident Evil - Director's Cut - Dual Shock Ver." for PlayStation 1 is an improved version of the iconic survival horror game, originally released in 1996. This special edition, which came to market to compensate for the delay of "Resident Evil 2", includes several new features that enrich the gaming experience. Among the most notable differences is support for the Dual Shock controller, which offers support for vibration and analog controls, intensifying the feeling of immersion in the chilling halls of the Spencer Mansion.
Additionally, this version features an "Advanced" mode that modifies the layout of enemies and objects, providing a new challenge for even the most experienced players. Camera angles and enemy locations have been altered, and a more powerful version of the default pistol has been added, as well as new costumes for the main characters, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, and for Rebecca Chambers.
The soundtrack also received an update, with a new orchestral score replacing the original music, changing the tone and atmosphere of the game. However, this decision was somewhat controversial among fans, as some preferred the classic soundtrack. Despite this, the new music contributes to a renewed and unique experience.
Another significant change is the elimination of the end credits montage present in the original version, which gives a different closure to the game. Additionally, a playable demo of "Resident Evil 2" was included on a separate disc, allowing players to get a preview of the long-awaited sequel.
In terms of content, "Resident Evil - Director's Cut - Dual Shock Ver." maintains the essence of the game that defined the survival horror genre, with its bloodthirsty zombies, mutant beasts and monstrous snakes, but with additions that offer a richer and more varied experience. This title is not only a testament to the legacy of "Resident Evil," but also an example of how special editions can offer a new perspective on video game classics.
History
The story of Resident Evil 1 begins with the investigation of a series of mysterious murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The members of the S.T.A.R.S. team (Special Tactics And Rescue Service), Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, are sent to investigate and end up trapped in a creepy mansion. They soon discover that the mansion is a research laboratory for the Umbrella corporation, where illegal experiments have been carried out with a virus that reanimates the dead and creates mutant monsters. As they explore, they meet other members of their team and discover the betrayal of one of their own members, Albert Wesker, who is involved in Umbrella's experiments.
