Description
Mario Bros. from 1986 for the console (NES). Developed and distributed by Nintendo Co. Ltd., this platform game first introduced Luigi, offering both single and multiplayer action with two different types of gameplay but with the same objective: clean the pipes of a variety of creatures such as crabs, turtles and fighting flies. Technically, the game featured graphics and sounds that were advanced for its time, setting a standard for future games.
In addition to the NES, Mario Bros. has been available on several other platforms over the years, including the Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and most recently, as part of the selection of pre-installed games on the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System. Each version maintained the essence of the original game, while some incorporated improvements such as updated graphics or smoother controls.
In terms of improvements and downgrades, later versions have sought to preserve classic gameplay while adapting to more modern hardware capabilities. This has allowed the graphics and music to be richer and more detailed, although some purists prefer the simplicity and challenge of the original. More recent versions have also included additional features such as online leaderboards and the ability to save game progress, which was not available on the NES.
The plot of "Mario Bros." is simple but charming: Mario and Luigi, the best-known plumbers in the world of video games, must face an invasion of creatures in the sewers of New York. Although the game does not have a complex narrative like later titles in the series, it established the foundation for character and world development that would be expanded in future games.
