Donkey Kong 64, developed by Rare and published by Nintendo in 1999, marked a milestone in the series, Donkey Kong to take it to the field is three-dimensional. Exclusive to the Nintendo 64, this title stood out for its ambitious level design, its large amount of collectibles and varied gameplay.
The game features an open world divided into various themed levels, each with its own characteristics and challenges. Players control Donkey Kong and a group of characters Kong, each with unique skills that are needed to progress in the adventure. The search of bananas and other collectibles becomes the main motivation for exploring every corner of levels.
One of the peculiarities of Donkey Kong 64 is the need of the Expansion Pak for the Nintendo 64. This optional accessory provides extra memory, which allowed the game to provide more detailed graphics and larger levels. In addition, the game introduced a system of control rather complex, which required a time of adaptation on the part of the players.
In regard to improvements and declining compared to other versions, Donkey Kong 64 has only been released for Nintendo 64 and Wii U (as a part of the virtual console). The version of the Wii U offers a higher resolution and compatibility with the controls classic Nintendo 64, but in terms of content and gameplay is identical to the original.
Donkey Kong 64 was very well received by the critics and the public in their time, being considered one of the best platform games of the time. However, some players found the game too long and repetitive, especially in regards to the search of collectibles.
History
On the lush Island of Donkey Kong, a feast is interrupted by the evil King K. Rool and his army of Kremlings. These villains have stolen all of the bananas and golden on the island, including the precious bananas from Donkey Kong. Angered, Donkey Kong decides to retrieve what belongs to him and along with his friends Kong, embarks on an epic adventure.
Each Kong has unique abilities: Donkey Kong is strong and can break objects, Diddy Kong is fast and agile, Lanky Kong is flexible and can stretch his arms, Tiny Kong is small and can fly with their parachute, and Chunky Kong is the most heavy-duty and can use his brute force.
The adventure leads them to explore different worlds: from a jungle of lush to an abandoned factory, passing through an underground mine and a floating city. In each level, the Kongs must overcome obstacles, solve puzzles and confront the Kremlings to find the bananas brown and other collectibles.
As they advance, the Kongs find that K. Rool has a plan more sinister: to build a giant machine to destroy the island. To stop it, the Kongs must find the pieces of the machine and sabotearla.
After many adventures and battles, the Kongs finally face K. Rool in his floating fortress. In a thrilling final battle, the Kongs use all your skills to defeat the evil king and retrieve the bananas brown. With K. Rool is defeated, peace returns to the Island, Donkey Kong, and the Kongs can celebrate their victory.
